Help me M.O.V.E the Collegiate Campus Culture

Thoughts of Irby:
We are on the campuses of Universities and Colleges as a privilege that has been granted to our organization.  We need to take care of this privilege.  It is our responsibility to ensure and assure the Collegiate Brotherhood understand we DO NOT have to be on the campuses.  This is not a right, but a privilege.  We should continue to carry ourselves as if we want to be there and we will do everything in our power to honor our agreement with the university and campus community.


We need to be here as a resource to our collegians, in good and bad times, and those times of uncertainty.  Our efforts must be one of pulling from our experience, understanding the climate has changed and is changing.

Advisors, are you the example the collegiate need?  Are we telling or showing?

I am asking the Brotherhood to partner with me as we help to

M.O.V.E. the Collegiate Campus Culture.

In our efforts we will encourage the Collegiate to M.O.V.E.

M

Make a positive impact on their campus

O

Operate the chapters with Excellence 
  • Regularly scheduled effectively operated meetings,

  • Honoring your Chapter History (Recorded Chapter History)

  • Learning and Understanding Roberts Rules of Order,

  • Fiscal responsibility- Chapter Finances

  • Low Risk Management opportunities (Assuring all efforts are above board.  Proper paperwork is completed and submitted timely. Understanding University and Fraternity Protocols).

  •  Attending Conferences (Having a delegate available and prepared for conferences). Knowing the current day focus and plans.
     

To assure processes are in place.  It helps with assuring collegiate operations and we are not bringing in new members into a system of historically poorly ran chapters.  Connecting the Advisors to assure they are well equipped and knowledgeable of chapter operations. (Specific Trainings from Subject matter experts) Assuring adherence to the above. There needs to be some tie into MIP approval.  A system of approval.  MIP should be a privilege.  We are losing collegiate members because we put too much emphasis on numbers and not quality.  We get the members and the 2 year Neophyte plan is not followed through. 

  • Image Matters- personal appearance, campus etiquette, character, motivation

  • Campus Leadership- SGA, Athletic, Peer Counselors, Campus Royalty (Recruit there)

  • Academic Excellence- Making sure to not forget why they are in college.  Start speaking of Alain Leroy Locke

  •  Awarding financial resources for those efforts where feasible.  Collegiate IMPACT or ELLEVATION Fund of sorts. 

  • Utilization of Brothers currently employed in Student Affairs to help build the plan.

Value the history of the organization
  • Collegians must start looking at Phi Beta Sigma as the Standard and not the option,

  • Cultivate and cherish the storied 109-year History-

  • Our principles and Programs are second to none.  How are we making the Impact in Our Communities?

  • Our Dove is Peace and Serenity

  • Highlight Fraternity’s accomplishments
     

BE PROUD of Phi Beta SIGMA and what we stand for as an organization.  There is no need to create anything else.  Be innovative in what we have, do not change it, elevate it.  Broaden the spectrum of what we can do.  Think outside the box, however, keep our traditions sacred.

Elevate the campus experience 
  • Seek Resources- Know who are the shakers and movers on campus- partner with them, Recruit them.

  • Forge formidable and sustainable relationships (President and VPs, Directors, Professors, Instructors, and Community-Local Governmental Officials, Campus Leaders)

  • Create seats at the table,

  • Host out of the Box Programming- Scheduled National Days (Classroom Adoption Day, Dr. Suess, Pizza Days, Spelling Bees, Campus Appreciation Days, Professor Appreciation Days, Go Beyond Pie A Sigma
     

Who do you Know?  Who knows you?  How do they know you? Who can you go to?

*Creating a Campus Culture that will give the Collegiate Brotherhood a lasting and impactful collegiate experience, which will also help with the necessary recruitment effort.  This will help with the value proposition needed to attract collegiate game changers to the organization. *
